Karen Karbo's first novel, Trespassers Welcome Here, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, and a Village Voice Top Ten Book of the Year. Her other two adult novels, The Diamond Lane and Motherhood Made a Man Out of Me, were also named New York Times Notable Books.3/5.

The title, The Diamond Lane, is the Diamond Lane in L.A., the carpool lane which is referenced maybe twice in the whole book. Reading it on my Kindle, I forgot what the title of the book even was until someone asked me what I was reading/5(17).

Looked like "The Diamond Lane," I'm guessing it was a prop rather than a real book, but if it is real one would think it's a new book given that all three parties had a jacketed hardcover. Couldn't catch the author's name (poor fiftysomething vision) and can't look it up now given that we watched it live instead of recording it.

The Diamond Lane is a novel worth reading not only for its satirical sendup of Hollywood and its materialism, but also for its continuing relevance to the American way of life more than two decades after its first publication.

Karbo speaks to all of us who have struggled to achieve our dreams, been fraught with the need for self-discovery, navigated intricate family.
